Neely & Travis- and Easter weekend wedding

It was a beautiful misty afternoon this Spring when this lovely couple from Houston made Austin the destination for their Easter weekend wedding. We were so happy to work with this lovely bride planning her wedding and coordinating her wedding flowers. Purples, blues, greens and ivory was the color palette and Easter eggs adorned every place setting.

I had the pleasure of attending The Knot's annual Austin party and was very surprised to realize my outfit matched the event! :-) Laguna Gloria was magnificent as always and we all got a little sprinkle from the clouds to cool us all off to enjoy the sunset.

I almost thought twice about putting on my persimmon peep toe wedge slingbacks with my green and white polka dot sundress but I'm glad I did! I modified this vintage find by adding white grosgrain ribbon straps and belt and finishing it off with a white poppy flower in my hair made by yours truly.

I was inspired by the color combo and collected a collage of photos to inspire you all to be a bit more daring!

Berries Galore!

It is still summer in these parts and that means blueberries!!! This time of year I cannot seem to get enough cherries, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries- it's a good thing they are some of my favorite colors! The trend seems to be catching on...

Cass & Shane's Wedding- too cute for words!

I enjoyed this wedding so much I couldn't wait to post some photos. Thank you for a friend of the couple for these pictures and I can't wait to see what the wedding photographer captured! These two cute younglings had a wonderful late August wedding deep in the heart of Texas. Family and friends came together to make this day extra special for them and we had the honor of designing, creating the floral and coordinating this sweet nuptial. Purples, blues and greens were the colors for the day and vintage elements were the accents. There was not a huge budget for this wedding so we had to be creative. In lieu of expensive tablecloths or overlays, we dressed up the tables with a collection of vintage scarves and a grouping of bud vases filled with flowers in the color scheme and included some fresh Texas herbs as well.

A Grecian inspired dress draped perfectly on this bride and the super cute silver sandals really made it not feel contrived or stuffy. A handmade little birdcage veil adorned with a vintage brooch accented her hair and a glass of champagne calmed her nerves before the ceremony; in a Bride glass no doubt.

Handmade fabric flowers accented all of the bridesmaids summer locks and pewter silk baby doll dresses with fab purple patent leather sandals complimented their ruby colored toe nails.

A collection of tasty sweets was an awesome parting gift for the guests and kept the kids at the wedding coming back and sneeking seconds...and thirds...and.....The vintage '60s rose paintings added that extra something to the walls of this Texas ranch house.

Each table had a collection of different flowers in the color scheme and added the punch of color needed against the white tablecloths. We were glad for the wind but it did make the scarves blow a bit too much.

Cobalt blue was the color for the day and a trick to find in the summer flower selections.

Belladonna delphinium hit the spot and added the saturated splash of color this August wedding needed along with beautiful deep purples, pinks, and jade green- my favorite color combo!

This sweet wolf-like dog came out of the woods crashed the ceremony but didn't attack anyone, thankfully.

There was a bevy of animals in attendance including this miniature donkey who sounded the alarm once the bride and groom were pronounced husband and wife. The giggles from the guests sweetly dried the tears of joy for this cute couple in love.

Handmade programs of various printed paper were hand stitched and each originals that told Shane & Cassidy's sweet story of their meeting.

A few rain drops began to leak from the clouds just enough to cool us all off then the clouds parted as the couple kissed- so beautiful!

The uber cute ring bearer and flower girl signaled the bridal walk down the aisle with her dad.

And then they kiss...

Glow sticks made their departure in a vintage '66 Lincoln Continental convertible very festive.

I will absolutely be posting more photos of this wedding once I receive the photos from the wedding photographer- I just couldn't wait!

This was a super fun wedding to be a part of and a super wonderful couple to work with. Thinking outside the box was the name of the game, well that and the color red- fabulous!

With a ceremony atop Mt. Bonnell to the super fun reception at the United States Art Authority, this wedding was pure Austin.

Summer is hear and time to plan for the Fall

Everyone should know by these record temperatures that Summer is officially here. The fireworks will be lighting the night sky all around this country and kids will be playing in sprinklers and eating watermelon like there's no tomorrow.

Summer is one of those fabulous times when one gets to thinking about all the plans for the Fall, well at least in my industry. The fashion mavens are launching their winter collections and brides are talking about what fall colors are appropriate without being too cliche.

Summer is one of my favorite times because I don't need an excuse to keep my bathing suite on 20 hours a day and wear nothing on my feet except flip flops. My garden is flourishing despite the heat and I have more than enough safe tomatoes to eat, or whatever they deem "contaminated" next.

Many of my clients don;t realize that the summer is a great time to find savings when you are planning your event. Many photographers, florists, rental companies, etc. are offering specials or discounts on certain items or services. If you are a gambler, you can save quite a bit of money if you wait until summer to book some big ticket items. Lucky brides who opt for a planner should be guided to these specials and savings and having the negotiating power of a seasoned planner certainly doesn't hurt either.

So I say to all you procrastinators out there: get planning! The cool breezes of October will soon be on our doorstep and your super fabulous event needs more fabulousness.

Family Fun Fest

I love designing and organizing kids parties. It's always a challenge but very rewarding. This event was for a very special school and was one of their primary fundraisers for the year. We had some wonderful sponsors for the event like Steaz and NadaMoo along with some fantastic face painting, bouncers, traditional Indian dancing and fantiastic music from wonderful local musicians including Lisa Richards and Eliza Gilkyson. It was truly a fun time for all!

Spring Wedding at Mercury Hall

I had the wonderful task of creating some fabulous flowers for a very sweet bride. She had chosen blue and purple for her colors which can be a challenge to find in flowers. Luckily in Spring there are some fabulous choices like hydrangea, hyacinth, delphinium and cornflower.

THE party of '07

The father of the party honoree contacted me in July '07 to design and plan the ultimate party for his daughter. The theme "Backyard Carnival". There were going to be logistical issues due to the fact that he wanted a real carnival in the backyard of their home. This was no ordinary backyard, but there were still going to be challenges. I immediately got to work since there was only three months to plan and made it happen. The invitations were a custom package design collaboration between myself and our graphic artist. They were clear Lucite boxes filled with real candy apples and the custom illustrated paper invitation with a drawn image of the ferris wheel we were going to have in the backyard. The whole carnival thing was a total secret to the guests so this invitation set the tone without giving it all away. I mean, who would get an invitation with a ferris wheel on it and think that was going to be at the party.

Next on the list was organizing the outdoor concert that was happening at this party as well. We had a local band Skyrocket open and close the show. John Ondrasik of Five For Fighting played an amazing solo set for the whole party. hearing songs like "Superman" and "100 Years" live overlooking Lake Austin at sunset was amazing!!

If that wasn't enough, we had a super cool Teen Disco going on in the media/game room of the house. The kids had a refuge from their parents to party and cut loose.

This was a super fun event to design and plan and the family I worked was amazing. I feel so fortunate to work with such wonderful clients. We all end up feeling like family members by the end of the party. Enjoy the photos!
